I woke up wanting a breakfast of scrambled eggs this morning, but was not that keen on cooking for myself, or waking my husband up to cook for me – so I checked out the breakfast menu at the nearby Rose and Crown Hotel, and spied the salmon scrambled eggs and chives served on country loaf.

I was greeted warmly as I entered the hotel’s “Posh Convict Bar”, and shown to a table near the fire in the formal dining room, which was greatly appreciated as it was freezing this morning.
After ordering a latte, I sat down to check that my yearned for scrambled eggs were still on the menu and they were! I asked for a weak latte as often coffee can be too strong for me, but this time I should have kept to the normal strength latte. The coffee was a nice temperature and despite my asking for a weak latte the crema had good colour.

Being the first to be seated out of two other tables, I was last to have my order taken. Maybe because I wasn’t a guest staying in the hotel? Wasn’t an issue, my meal came out straight after the others.

The eggs were cooked nicely, although I thought they lacked a little seasoning. The serving of smoked salmon was very generous; and I devoured the thick slice of country loaf, it was nutty and delicious, almost a meal on its own.

The staff are friendly and efficient. I live close to the Rose and Crown and enjoy catching up with friends for a drink. The outdoor area is always buzzing on sunny afternoons, and also a great place for families with young children to relax as well.
