Hearing there was a wine and cheese tasting at Balthazar at 5pm (my favourite time for a wine tasting), we jumped on the train and headed into town. I can virtuously state, we never drink (nor text) and drive.

Balthazar is situated in a lovely old building and you can enjoy a wine, snack or/and delicious meal. Enoteca Sydney explained the background of their Italian wines – emphasising their natural wine making processes.

We enjoyed 5 tastings and I will focus on the Rose – the ‘2015 girolamo russo etna rose’ from Mt Etna, Sicily. This wine is pale pink, strawberry aromas – raspberry and herbs on the palate, lovely dry finish.

We finished up with a lovely camembert and I chose a glass of the “terraviva lui montelpulciano” – the cheese was creamy and buttery accompanied by delicious apple and pepperberry jelly.

The red was divine – I can drink red wine every season of the year; however I have friends who can only drink red during winter and autumn. “Friends, romans, countrymen – lend me your ears – you will enjoy this wine during an Australian Summer!
